Paula Christian Kliger, PhD

Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer

"I was born and raised on the East Coast of the United States, from New England to New York City and the Bronx, to Florida and then north again. Before completing college I had a number of life-altering opportunities and experiences. For several years I was a professional singer and songwriter, often performing around the country and internationally. As a consequence I was able to become a part of the lives of people from all around the world, from many different cultures and many ways of life. I have felt very privileged to be with people this way. There was so much learning from these early travels. And they set the stage for the rest of my life as a psychologist.

"At the age of 22 I had one of the most extraordinary experiences of all. I landed the incredible opportunity to sing for hundreds of American troops assigned to combat in South Vietnam. In one very special moment I was assigned, along with the incredibly talented band I traveled with, to perform for the troops at the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). Also, as a part of my assignment in the USO (United Services Organization), I was also given the opportunity to visit and provide a little comfort and hope to the hospitalized soldiers and South Vietnamese people as they recuperated from their physical and emotional injuries of combat. That particularly moving experience and the many others doing music in and outside of the United States changed my life permanently. Led back home, I was motivated to study psychology and to make a commitment to partner with people – in their personal life and at their work – in order to relieve human pain and suffering and to help us to create richer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.”
